What Happens During Dermal Filler Treatment?
Medical Consultation
The doctor evaluates facial anatomy, proportions, existing volume, asymmetry, tissue quality and previous injectable treatments.
Treatment Planning
We identify whether filler is actually required and which areas would provide the most appropriate improvement.
Product Selection
A suitable JUVÉDERM®, STYLAGE® or BELOTERO® formulation is selected according to the anatomical area and treatment objective.
Injection
The filler is placed into selected tissue planes using an appropriate needle or cannula technique. Injection technique depends on anatomy, product and treatment goal.
Reassessment
Facial balance and contour are reassessed following treatment. Further treatment should not automatically be added simply because additional product remains available.
Dermal Filler Recovery & Downtime
- Temporary injection-related reactions are common.
- These may include: Swelling • Redness • Tenderness • Bruising • Temporary Asymmetry Due to Swelling • Injection-Site Sensitivity
- Lips and some other areas may swell more noticeably.
Most routine reactions settle progressively. Patients should follow their doctor's individual recovery instructions.
Possible Side Effects & Risks
Common temporary reactions may include: Swelling • Bruising • Redness • Tenderness • Pain • Temporary Asymmetry
Other possible complications include: Lumps or Irregularities • Infection • Delayed Inflammatory Reactions • Filler Migration • Persistent Swelling • Vascular Complications
Rare but serious vascular complications can potentially result in tissue injury and, in very rare circumstances, visual complications.
Appropriate anatomical knowledge, product selection, injection technique, patient selection and complication management protocols are essential.

At Pearl Skin Polyclinic in Dubai, dermal fillers are used to restore selected facial volume, refine proportions, soften appropriate folds and support facial contours while preserving natural anatomy.
Facial assessment
We first assess the face as a whole. This includes: Facial Proportions • Bone Structure • Existing Volume • Age-Related Volume Changes • Asymmetry • Tissue Quality • Previous Fillers • Dynamic Facial Movement
Identify the actual deficit
We determine whether the concern is genuinely related to volume or structural support. A tired-looking face does not automatically need filler. A poorly defined jawline does not automatically need filler. And every under-eye shadow is not a tear trough.
Select the appropriate product
The filler is selected according to the anatomical area and treatment objective. Different gels behave differently within tissues.
Precise placement
The selected filler is placed using an appropriate injection technique according to anatomy and treatment plan.
Reassess facial balance
The result is evaluated in relation to the whole face rather than treating each area independently.
We work with established hyaluronic acid filler ranges including JUVÉDERM®, STYLAGE® and BELOTERO®.
We do not use one filler for every area.
Different products have different physical characteristics and are selected according to the anatomical layer, treatment area, tissue characteristics and the result we want to achieve.
The goal is not to add volume everywhere. The goal is to identify where volume or structural support is actually needed — and where it is not.

What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable products used to modify volume, contour and structural support in selected areas of the face.
At Pearl Skin, the principal fillers used for facial correction are based on hyaluronic acid (HA).
Hyaluronic acid is naturally present within human tissues and has an important relationship with hydration and the extracellular matrix.
When formulated as an injectable gel, hyaluronic acid can be used to create different aesthetic effects depending on the product and where it is placed.
A filler can be selected to: Restore Volume • Improve Contour • Support Facial Structure • Soften Selected Folds • Enhance Lip Shape • Correct Selected Asymmetries • Create Smoother Transitions Between Facial Areas
But filler does not automatically mean more volume.
Sometimes a very small amount placed in the correct anatomical area can create a better result than larger amounts distributed across the face.
Lip Fillers in Dubai
Lip filler is one of the most requested injectable treatments — and one of the easiest to overdo.
The lips should not be treated according to a universal template.
We assess: Natural Lip Shape • Upper-to-Lower Lip Proportions • Projection • Vermilion Border • Cupid's Bow • Asymmetry • Dental Support • Facial Proportions • Previous Filler
Depending on the patient, the goal may be: Volume • Definition • Hydration & Softness • Correction of Asymmetry • Restoration of Volume That Has Changed Over Time
The goal is not to create the same lips on every patient.
Cheek & Mid-Face Fillers

Age-related changes in the mid-face can alter the relationship between the cheeks, under-eye area and lower face.
In selected patients, filler can restore or enhance volume and support within the cheek area.
But cheek filler should not simply mean “bigger cheekbones”.
We consider whether volume is actually missing and where support is needed.
The objective may be to: Restore Age-Related Volume • Improve Cheek Contour • Create Smoother Facial Transitions • Improve Overall Facial Balance
Chin Filler in Dubai
The chin has an important role in overall facial proportions.
Chin filler may be considered when additional projection, contour or balance is appropriate.
We assess the chin in relation to: Lips • Nose • Jawline • Lower-Face Height • Overall Profile
The objective is not simply to make the chin larger.
A few millimetres of proportion can change the perception of the entire profile.
Jawline Filler in Dubai

Jawline filler can be used in selected patients to improve contour and definition.
However, a poorly defined jawline can result from several different factors:
Skeletal Anatomy • Volume Distribution • Skin Laxity • Subcutaneous Fat • Masseter Anatomy • Platysma Activity
Filler only addresses selected structural and volume-related components.
If laxity or muscular activity is the dominant problem, another treatment may be more appropriate.
This is why we diagnose the cause of poor jawline definition before injecting.
Temple Filler in Dubai

Temporal hollowing can develop with age or may simply be part of a patient's natural anatomy.
Loss of volume in the temples can change the transition between the forehead, temple and cheek.
In selected patients, carefully planned filler can restore a smoother contour.
The temporal region contains important anatomical structures and requires advanced knowledge of facial anatomy.
Under-Eye / Tear Trough Filler

Under-eye filler is not suitable for every patient with dark circles.
Darkness under the eyes may be related to: True Tear-Trough Hollowing • Pigmentation • Visible Vessels • Thin Skin • Fluid Retention • Eye Bags • Facial Anatomy • A Combination of Factors
Filler primarily addresses a volume-related hollow or contour deficit.
If pigmentation, vascularity, skin quality or fluid retention is the dominant problem, another treatment may be more appropriate.
The under-eye area requires particularly careful patient selection because the tissues are thin and anatomically complex.
We treat a true volume deficit — not simply the presence of a dark under-eye area.
Nasolabial Fold Filler
Nasolabial folds extend from the sides of the nose toward the corners of the mouth.
These folds are normal anatomical structures.
They may become more prominent due to: Facial Anatomy • Mid-Face Volume Changes • Tissue Descent • Skin Quality • Facial Movement • Ageing
Directly filling the fold is not always the most appropriate strategy.
In some patients, assessment of the mid-face and surrounding structural support is more important.
The objective is not necessarily to erase the nasolabial fold completely.
Natural faces have folds. Treatment should preserve normal facial anatomy.
Marionette Line Filler
Marionette lines extend downward from the corners of the mouth toward the chin and jawline.
Their appearance may be influenced by: Volume Loss • Tissue Laxity • Facial Anatomy • Downward Muscular Pull • Changes in Lower-Face Support
Dermal filler may be considered when a volume or structural component contributes to the concern.
However, if skin laxity or muscular activity is dominant, filler alone may not provide the most appropriate correction.
Perioral Lines
Fine lines around the mouth may develop through a combination of: Repeated Lip Movement • Collagen Loss • Skin Quality Changes • Volume Changes • Sun Exposure
Selected hyaluronic acid fillers may be used to soften appropriate perioral lines.
However, treatment should be conservative because excessive filler in this area can alter normal lip movement and appearance.
Depending on the cause, other treatments may also be considered.
Facial Balancing with Dermal Fillers
Facial balancing does not mean injecting every part of the face.
It means assessing how facial structures relate to one another.
We may consider: Profile • Chin Projection • Lip Proportions • Mid-Face Support • Jawline • Facial Width • Existing Asymmetry
Sometimes treating one carefully selected area improves overall facial balance more effectively than adding filler to several areas.
The goal is proportion — not maximum volume.
Which Dermal Fillers Do We Use?
At Pearl Skin Polyclinic, we work with established hyaluronic acid filler ranges including: JUVÉDERM® • STYLAGE® • BELOTERO®
These are not treated as interchangeable products.
Different filler formulations can vary in characteristics such as:
Firmness • Elasticity • Cohesivity • Projection • Tissue Integration • Intended Treatment Area
Product selection depends on anatomy, tissue characteristics and treatment objective.
The doctor selects the appropriate product rather than using the same filler throughout the face.
JUVÉDERM® Fillers
JUVÉDERM® is a range of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers with different formulations designed for different treatment objectives.
Depending on the specific product and clinical indication, JUVÉDERM® may be considered for selected areas requiring: Volume Restoration • Contouring • Lip Enhancement • Structural Support • Correction of Appropriate Folds
The exact product is selected according to anatomy and treatment goal.
STYLAGE® Fillers
STYLAGE® is another range of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers used for selected facial aesthetic indications.
Different products within the range have different characteristics and are selected according to the tissue and desired result.
STYLAGE® may be considered for selected treatments involving: Lips • Facial Contours • Volume Changes • Folds • Other Appropriate Facial Areas
Product choice is individual.
BELOTERO® Fillers
BELOTERO® is a hyaluronic acid filler range with formulations intended for different tissue levels and aesthetic indications.
Depending on the specific product, it may be selected when the treatment objective requires appropriate integration within the tissue.
The choice between BELOTERO®, JUVÉDERM® and STYLAGE® is based on clinical indication rather than brand preference alone.
Hyaluronic Acid Fillers vs Collagen Biostimulators
Hyaluronic acid fillers and collagen biostimulators are injectable treatments, but their main functions differ.
- HYALURONIC ACID FILLERSPrimarily provide:
- Immediate Volume
- Contouring
- Projection
- Structural Correction
- Correction of Selected Folds
- COLLAGEN BIOSTIMULATORSTreatments such as Sculptra® primarily aim to stimulate progressive collagen production and tissue support. They do not create the same type of immediate gel-based volume.
Some patients may benefit from one approach. Others may benefit from a staged combination.
Dermal Fillers vs BOTOX® / Dysport®
Fillers and botulinum toxin treat different causes of facial ageing.
Dermal Fillers primarily address selected volume and structural concerns.
BOTOX® / Dysport® primarily reduce selected muscle activity.
For example, a dynamic forehead line caused by repeated muscle contraction is not treated in the same way as age-related cheek volume loss.
The treatment should match the cause of the concern.
Who Are Dermal Fillers For?
Dermal fillers may be considered for selected adults concerned about:
- Lip Volume or Definitionwhen enhancement or restoration is appropriate.
- Cheek & Mid-Face Volume Losswhen structural support or volume has changed.
- Chin Projection & Facial Profilewhen additional structural balance is appropriate.
- Jawline Definitionwhen a volume or structural component contributes to reduced definition.
- Temple Hollowingin appropriately selected patients.
- Tear-Trough Hollowingonly when true under-eye volume deficit is present and the patient is suitable.
- Nasolabial Foldswhen volume and structural factors contribute to the concern.
- Marionette Lineswhen selected lower-face volume changes are present.
- Facial Asymmetrywhen an injectable correction is clinically appropriate.
How Much Filler Do I Need?
There is no universal amount of dermal filler suitable for every face.
The amount required depends on: Anatomy • Treatment Area • Existing Volume • Degree of Volume Loss • Previous Fillers • Product Characteristics • Treatment Goal
More filler does not automatically create a better result.
In some patients, conservative treatment provides the most natural result.
Other patients with more significant structural volume loss may require a staged treatment plan.
The amount is determined by anatomy — not by a standard syringe count.
When Will I See Dermal Filler Results?
Unlike collagen biostimulators, hyaluronic acid fillers generally create an immediate change in volume or contour.
However, the appearance immediately after treatment is not necessarily the final result.
Temporary swelling can influence: Volume • Symmetry • Lip Shape • Facial Contours
The treated area should therefore be allowed to settle before the final result is assessed.
How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
Dermal fillers are temporary treatments.
Duration varies considerably according to:
Product • Treatment Area • Injection Technique • Amount Used • Tissue Characteristics • Facial Movement • Individual Metabolism
Lip filler, for example, should not automatically be expected to behave identically to filler placed in the chin or cheek.
Maintenance is determined individually.
Dermal Filler Aftercare
After treatment, patients may be advised to temporarily avoid: Intense Exercise • Sauna • Steam Rooms • Excessive Heat • Alcohol • Pressure or Massage of the Treated Area • Other Aesthetic Procedures
Specific instructions depend on the area and injection technique.
Do not massage or manipulate filler unless your doctor specifically instructs you to do so.
Can Hyaluronic Acid Filler Be Dissolved?
Hyaluronic acid fillers can potentially be treated with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronidase may be considered in selected situations, including when medically indicated or when correction of an appropriate HA filler is required.
Dissolving filler is itself a medical procedure and should not be treated casually.
The doctor should assess:
Which Product Was Used • Where It Was Injected • When It Was Injected • Current Tissue Condition • Reason for Dissolving
Not every injectable product can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.
Previous Filler & Correction
Patients who have previously received dermal fillers may present with: Residual Product • Asymmetry • Migration • Overcorrection • Unclear Product History • Changes in Facial Proportions
Adding more filler is not always the correct solution.
In selected cases, the existing filler may need to be assessed before additional treatment is considered.
The treatment plan may involve observation, correction, dissolving appropriate HA filler or a staged approach.
We do not automatically correct filler by adding more filler.
Dermal Filler Safety
Dermal filler injections are medical procedures.
The face contains a complex network of blood vessels, nerves and other anatomical structures.
Although many side effects are temporary, serious complications are possible.
One of the most important rare complications is vascular occlusion, which occurs when blood flow through a vessel is compromised.
This requires urgent recognition and medical management.
Patients should receive information about warning symptoms and know how to contact the clinic if they develop unexpected symptoms after treatment.
When Dermal Fillers May Not Be the Right Treatment
Filler is not the answer to every age-related or aesthetic concern.
Another treatment may be more appropriate when the primary issue is:
Dynamic Wrinkles • Significant Skin Laxity • Poor Skin Quality Without Volume Loss • Pigmentation • Vascular Redness • Acne Scarring • Muscular Jawline Changes • Under-Eye Bags Without True Hollowing
Sometimes the best filler decision is not to inject filler.
Can Dermal Fillers Be Combined with Other Treatments?
Depending on the patient's anatomy and concerns, dermal fillers may form part of a broader personalised treatment plan including: BOTOX® / Dysport® • Sculptra® • Morpheus8 • BBL HEROic™ • Skin Boosters • Biorevitalization Treatments
These treatments address different biological and structural components.
They are not necessarily performed during the same appointment.
The sequence should be planned according to anatomy, treatment priorities and recovery.
