Possible Side Effects & Risks

Dysport® is a prescription medical treatment and can cause side effects.

Temporary reactions may include: redness; swelling; tenderness; bruising; headache; or temporary discomfort at injection sites.

Depending on the area treated, unwanted temporary weakness of nearby muscles or changes in facial movement can occur.

Rare but potentially serious adverse effects are possible.

Patient selection, medical history, anatomical assessment, appropriate dosing and precise injection technique are therefore important.

Contraindications, precautions and potential adverse effects should be discussed during your medical consultation.

It is used to temporarily reduce selected muscle activity, particularly when repeated facial movement contributes to visible expression lines.

At Pearl Skin Polyclinic in Dubai, Dysport® is not administered according to a fixed “three-zone” template.

Before treatment, your doctor assesses how your face moves, which muscles dominate your expression, whether there is existing asymmetry and how much movement you would like to preserve.

The aim is not to stop expression. It is to control excessive muscular activity while keeping the face balanced and natural.

Dysport® for Frown Lines in Dubai

The Glabellar Area

The area between the eyebrows is one of the most established applications of Dysport®.

Glabellar lines are commonly described as: frown lines, 11 lines, or lines between the eyebrows.

They are associated mainly with repeated activity of the corrugator and procerus muscles.

For some patients, strong activity in this area creates a permanently tense or serious appearance even when they are relaxed.

Dysport® temporarily reduces excessive contraction of these muscles.

The objective is to soften the expression without changing the patient's natural facial identity.

Dysport® is officially indicated in several markets for temporary improvement of moderate to severe glabellar lines in appropriate adult patients.

Why We Assess the Whole Upper Face

A patient may come to the clinic asking only to treat the lines between the eyebrows.

But the muscles of the upper face function as a system.

The glabellar muscles influence eyebrow position.

The frontalis elevates the brows.

The orbicularis oculi contributes to movement around the eyes.

Existing eyebrow asymmetry can become more or less visible depending on how these muscles are balanced.

This is why we do not simply look at one wrinkle and inject it.

We assess: eyebrow position; forehead movement; glabellar strength; eye-area movement; existing asymmetry; eyelid anatomy; and the patient's natural expression.

A small treatment area still requires a full anatomical assessment.

Forehead Lines with Dysport®

Horizontal forehead lines are produced primarily through activity of the frontalis muscle.

But the frontalis has an important function: it elevates the eyebrows.

This means that simply relaxing the entire forehead as much as possible is not necessarily desirable.

In patients with naturally lower brows or particular eyelid anatomy, excessive relaxation may create unwanted heaviness.

In other patients, the pattern of forehead activity may be asymmetric.

Treatment therefore needs to consider not only the lines but also what the muscle is doing for the patient's facial balance.

Where treatment of this area is considered outside a locally approved indication, this should be discussed with the patient as off-label use.

Crow’s Feet & Eye Area

Dynamic lines around the outer corners of the eyes develop largely through repeated contraction of the orbicularis oculi muscle, particularly during smiling.

The goal of treatment is not to remove the smile.

A well-planned approach aims to reduce excessive folding while preserving natural expression around the eyes.

Eye shape, eyebrow position, cheek movement and existing asymmetry are assessed before treatment.

Regulatory indications for this area vary by country.

Dynamic vs Static Facial Lines

Not every facial line responds to neuromodulator treatment in the same way.

Dynamic lines appear or become more prominent when facial muscles contract — for example when frowning, smiling, squinting or raising the eyebrows.

These are the lines most directly influenced by Dysport® treatment.

Static lines remain visible when the face is at rest.

They may be influenced by years of repeated movement

Dysport® for the Lower Face

The lower face is one of the areas where more toxin is definitely not automatically better.

These muscles participate in smiling, speech, eating and lip movement.

Small anatomical differences matter.

For this reason, additional lower-face applications require conservative dosing and detailed assessment.

Gummy Smile

In some patients, excessive muscular elevation of the upper lip contributes to increased gingival display when smiling.

When muscle activity is an important component, carefully selected botulinum toxin treatment may be considered.

However, a gummy smile can also be influenced by dental anatomy, lip length and skeletal relationships.

The cause needs to be assessed before treatment is recommended.

Lip Flip

A lip flip involves carefully selected treatment of muscular activity around the upper lip.

Temporary reduction of this activity may allow the upper lip to appear slightly more everted during facial expression.

A Dysport® lip flip does not add volume to the lips.

It is therefore fundamentally different from lip filler.

The effect is subtle and depends on the patient's lip anatomy, smile pattern and muscular activity.

Chin Dimpling

An “orange-peel” or dimpled appearance of the chin can be associated with excessive contraction of the mentalis muscle.

In selected patients, reducing excessive mentalis activity may create a smoother appearance during facial expression.

DAO / Downturned Mouth Corners

The depressor anguli oris (DAO) contributes to downward movement of the corners of the mouth.

When excessive downward muscular pull is present, carefully selected treatment may be considered to improve muscular balance in the lower face.

Because this area is closely involved in normal facial movement, precise placement and conservative dosing are important.

Masseter Dysport® & Jaw Slimming in Dubai

The masseter muscles are powerful muscles involved in chewing.

In some patients, they are naturally prominent or become enlarged through significant muscular activity.

This can contribute to a wider or more square appearance of the lower face.

Masseter Dysport® may be considered in selected patients when excessive muscle activity or masseter hypertrophycontributes to the concern.

Patients may seek assessment for: prominent or enlarged masseter muscles; a square or heavy lower face; excessive jaw-muscle activity; jaw clenching; or lower-face muscular imbalance.

When enlarged masseter muscles contribute significantly to facial width, reducing their activity may gradually create a softer lower-face contour.

However, facial width can also be determined by bone structure, fat distribution and other soft tissues.

For this reason, jaw slimming with Dysport® is not appropriate for every face.

Patients experiencing jaw pain, teeth grinding or suspected temporomandibular disorders may require additional dental or medical assessment.

Dysport® for the Neck & Jawline

Platysma Bands

The platysma is a superficial muscle extending across the neck and into the lower face.

With repeated muscular activity and age-related changes, vertical platysma bands can become increasingly visible.

In selected patients, botulinum toxin may be considered to temporarily reduce excessive platysma activity.

This can soften the muscular appearance of visible neck bands.

Neck & Jawline Muscular Balance

The platysma can also contribute to downward muscular pull in the lower face.

Selected treatment may therefore be considered when muscular activity contributes to the appearance of the neck or jawline.

Dysport® does not remove excess skin and does not replace procedures designed to address significant skin laxity.

The treatment targets muscle activity rather than physically lifting loose tissue.

Dysport® for Hyperhidrosis in Dubai

Dysport® may also be considered for selected patients with hyperhidrosis — excessive sweating.

Botulinum toxin temporarily reduces nerve signalling to the sweat glands in the treated area, helping to reduce excessive sweat production.

Treatment may be considered for:

Underarms / Axillary Hyperhidrosis

Excessive sweating affecting the underarm area.

Palms / Palmar Hyperhidrosis

Excessive sweating affecting the hands.

Feet / Plantar Hyperhidrosis

Excessive sweating affecting the feet.

Hyperhidrosis can have different causes, so a medical assessment is required before treatment.

The treatment area, dosing and injection technique are selected individually according to the severity and location of excessive sweating.

The approved indications for Dysport® vary by country. Treatment of hyperhidrosis may represent off-label use depending on the jurisdiction and is considered only after individual medical assessment.

What Happens During Dysport® Treatment?

Assessment

For facial treatment, your doctor assesses facial movement at rest and during expression. Muscle strength, facial proportions, symmetry and the interaction between different muscle groups are evaluated. For hyperhidrosis treatment, the location and pattern of excessive sweating are assessed.

Dysport® Aftercare

Mild redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising or small injection marks may occur immediately after Dysport® injections.

These reactions are usually temporary.

Patients should avoid unnecessary pressure or manipulation of the treated area immediately following treatment.

Depending on the treatment area and individual procedure, your practitioner may advise temporarily avoiding: intense exercise; excessive heat; sauna or steam rooms; or other activities that may affect the treated area.

Follow the specific aftercare instructions provided by your treating doctor.

Dysport® Consultation in Dubai

Natural-looking Dysport® treatment starts with understanding how your face moves and what is causing your concern.

At Pearl Skin Polyclinic in Dubai, your doctor assesses your anatomy, muscle strength, symmetry, expression patterns and individual treatment goals before recommending treatment.

For patients concerned about excessive sweating, the pattern and location of hyperhidrosis are assessed before deciding whether botulinum toxin treatment is appropriate.

Depending on the concern, Dysport® may be used alone or incorporated into a wider personalised aesthetic or dermatological treatment plan.

The goal is controlled, personalised treatment based on anatomy, indication and individual needs.
