What Is Sculptra®?

Its active ingredient is poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) — a biocompatible and biodegradable material that has been used in medicine for many years.

Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, Sculptra® is not primarily designed to create immediate volume. Instead, it works progressively within the tissues, encouraging new collagen formation and helping restore the skin’s underlying structural support.

At Pearl Skin Polyclinic in Dubai, Sculptra® treatments are performed following an individual medical assessment and personalised treatment plan.

Temples

May be used to improve age-related hollowing and support the upper face.

Lower Face

Collagen stimulation may improve tissue quality and support facial contours where laxity has developed.

Jawline Area

In appropriately selected patients, improving tissue support may contribute to a more defined appearance of the lower face.

Treatment areas are selected by the doctor according to facial anatomy, tissue condition and treatment goals.

What Happens During the Treatment?

  1. Medical Consultation

The doctor evaluates facial anatomy, skin quality, volume distribution and signs of ageing.

  2. Personalised Treatment Plan

Injection areas and the appropriate treatment strategy are selected according to the patient’s individual anatomy.

  3. Sculptra® Injections

The prepared product is carefully injected into selected tissue planes using an appropriate injection technique.

  4. Aftercare

The doctor provides individual post-treatment recommendations and explains what to expect during recovery.

Recovery After Sculptra®

  1. Sculptra® is a minimally invasive injectable procedure, but temporary reactions may occur after treatment.
    • These may include: Redness • Swelling • Tenderness • Bruising • Temporary Sensitivity at Injection Sites

Most reactions are temporary. Patients should follow the aftercare instructions provided by their doctor.

Sculptra® is an injectable collagen biostimulator designed to gradually improve skin firmness, structure and facial support by stimulating the body’s own collagen production.

How Does Sculptra® Work?

How Sculptra works: injected, stimulates, collagen growth, natural results

Collagen is one of the main structural proteins responsible for skin firmness, elasticity and density.

With age, collagen production gradually decreases, contributing to skin laxity, loss of facial support and changes in facial contours.

After Sculptra® is injected into selected areas, PLLA particles stimulate a controlled regenerative response within the tissue.

Over the following weeks and months, this process encourages the formation of new collagen.

Sculptra® injection → Collagen stimulation → Progressive tissue remodelling → Improved firmness and structural support

The goal is not to dramatically change facial features, but to improve tissue quality and restore support in a natural-looking way.

What Can Sculptra® Help Improve?

Sculptra® may be recommended for patients experiencing: Loss of Facial Volume • Reduced Skin Firmness • Facial Skin Laxity • Age-Related Structural Changes • Flattening of the Cheeks • Changes in Facial Contours • Reduced Tissue Density • Early Signs of Facial Sagging • Loss of Support in the Mid & Lower Face • Overall Facial Ageing

Treatment indications are determined individually during consultation.

Sculptra® vs Dermal Fillers

Although both treatments are injectable, they work differently.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers are primarily used to create or restore volume, improve contours or correct specific areas. Their volumising effect can usually be seen immediately.

Sculptra® works primarily through collagen stimulation. Changes develop progressively as the skin produces new collagen.

For some patients, Sculptra® may be used alone. For others, a combination of collagen stimulation and dermal fillers may provide a more appropriate result.

The choice depends on facial anatomy, degree of volume loss, skin quality and the desired outcome.

When Will I See Results?

Sculptra® is a gradual treatment.

Some temporary volume may be visible immediately after the procedure because of the water used to prepare the product.

This initial effect decreases shortly afterwards and should not be considered the final result.

Collagen stimulation develops progressively over the following weeks.

Patients may notice gradual improvements in: Skin Firmness • Tissue Density • Facial Support • Skin Quality • Facial Contours

Results continue to develop as collagen remodelling takes place.

How Many Sculptra® Sessions Are Needed?

There is no universal protocol for every patient.

The number of sessions and amount of product required depend on: Age • Facial Anatomy • Degree of Volume Loss • Skin Quality • Tissue Laxity • Previous Aesthetic Treatments • Individual Treatment Goals

A personalised treatment plan is created following medical consultation.

In many cases, treatment involves a series of sessions rather than a single appointment, allowing the result to develop gradually.

Is Sculptra® a Filler?

Sculptra® is often discussed alongside dermal fillers because it is an injectable aesthetic treatment, but its primary mechanism is different.

Traditional fillers mainly provide volume through the injected material itself.

Sculptra® contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which stimulates the body’s own collagen production.

For this reason, it is more accurately described as a collagen biostimulator.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Sculptra®?

Sculptra® may be suitable for adults who want to address progressive changes associated with collagen loss rather than simply add immediate volume.

It may be considered for patients who prefer:

Gradual Results • Improvement in Tissue Quality • Increased Skin Firmness • Restoration of Facial Support • Natural-Looking Facial Rejuvenation • Progressive Collagen Stimulation

Patients may seek Sculptra® treatment when they notice: Facial Volume Loss • Flattening of the Cheeks • Temple Hollowing • Reduced Tissue Density • Skin Laxity • Changes in Facial Contours • Early Facial Sagging • Age-Related Loss of Support

Sculptra® is not the correct treatment for every patient.

The treatment plan depends on facial anatomy, tissue quality, degree of volume loss and the patient's aesthetic goals.

Sculptra® for Facial Volume Loss

Facial ageing involves more than the appearance of individual wrinkles.

Changes can occur in the skin, fat compartments, ligaments and underlying structural support.

As collagen decreases and facial tissues change, patients may notice:

Reduced Mid-Face Support • Flatter Cheeks • Temple Hollowing • Less Defined Facial Contours • Increased Lower-Face Laxity

Sculptra® may be considered when gradual collagen stimulation and improvement in tissue support correspond to the patient's needs.

The objective is not to create excessive or artificial volume.

The aim is progressive restoration of support while preserving individual facial proportions.

Sculptra® for Cheeks & Mid-Face

Both mid-face areas outlined on a front view of a face

The mid-face plays an important role in overall facial structure.

Age-related changes may lead to reduced tissue support and flattening of the cheeks.

Sculptra® can be used in selected patients to stimulate collagen within appropriate treatment areas and support gradual improvement in tissue structure.

This differs from using a hyaluronic acid filler to create an immediate projected cheek contour.

The appropriate treatment depends on whether the patient requires direct volume replacement, collagen stimulation or a combination of both.

Sculptra® for Temples

The temple outlined as a treatment area on a profile view

Temple hollowing can become more visible with age and changes in facial volume.

In appropriately selected patients, Sculptra® may be considered as part of a gradual approach to improving upper-face support.

The temple is an anatomically complex area.

Treatment therefore requires detailed knowledge of facial anatomy and appropriate injection technique.

Sculptra® for the Lower Face & Jawline

The jawline outlined as a treatment area on a profile view

Age-related changes in the lower face can involve: Collagen Loss • Reduced Tissue Firmness • Changes in Facial Support • Skin Laxity • Changes in Jawline Definition

Sculptra® may be considered when collagen stimulation is appropriate for improving tissue quality and structural support.

However, Sculptra® does not produce the same result as surgical lifting and does not directly remove excess skin.

A patient with significant tissue descent may require a different treatment strategy.

Sculptra® for Skin Laxity

Patients frequently search for treatments to “tighten” loose skin.

Skin laxity can vary significantly in severity and cause.

Sculptra® stimulates collagen production and may contribute to progressive improvement in skin firmness, tissue density and structural support.

It should not be presented as an instant skin-tightening procedure.

The degree of improvement depends on the patient's baseline tissue quality, anatomy and degree of laxity.

How Is Sculptra® Different from Hyaluronic Acid Filler?

Both treatments are injectable, but their primary mechanisms are different.

  • HYALURONIC ACID FILLERProvides volume through the injected gel itself. It may be selected to: Restore Specific Volume • Shape Facial Contours • Enhance Selected Features • Correct Defined Areas Results are usually visible immediately, although swelling can temporarily influence appearance.
  • SCULPTRA®Contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and works primarily through stimulation of the body's collagen response. Changes develop progressively rather than being based mainly on immediate gel volume. Sculptra® may therefore be particularly relevant when the goal is:
    • Gradual Collagen Stimulation
    • Tissue Quality
    • Facial Support
    • Progressive Rejuvenation

Neither treatment is automatically better. The correct choice depends on what the face actually needs.

Sculptra® vs Skin Boosters

Skin boosters and Sculptra® are different treatment categories.

Skin boosters are generally used when the primary goal is improvement in hydration and superficial skin quality.

Sculptra® is used when the treatment objective involves collagen stimulation and deeper structural support.

A patient concerned mainly about dehydrated skin may therefore require a different treatment from someone experiencing progressive loss of tissue support.

Sculptra® vs Morpheus8

Sculptra® and Morpheus8 can both form part of a collagen-remodelling strategy, but they work through different mechanisms.

Sculptra® is an injectable PLLA collagen biostimulator.

Morpheus8 combines microneedles with radiofrequency energy to create controlled fractional thermal coagulation and tissue remodelling.

Sculptra® may be selected when injectable collagen stimulation and structural support are the primary objectives.

Morpheus8 may be selected when fractional RF treatment of skin laxity, texture or scars is more appropriate.

Some patients may benefit from both within a staged personalised treatment programme.

When Will I See Sculptra® Results?

Sculptra® results develop gradually.

Immediately after injection, temporary fullness may be visible because of the fluid used to prepare the product.

This initial appearance decreases and should not be interpreted as the final result.

Over the following weeks and months, collagen stimulation and tissue remodelling develop progressively.

Patients may notice changes in: Skin Firmness • Tissue Density • Facial Support • Facial Contours • Overall Skin Quality

Sculptra® is designed for progressive change rather than immediate transformation.

How Long Do Sculptra® Results Last?

The effect of Sculptra® is related to the collagen response stimulated following treatment.

Results are not permanent.

The duration and degree of improvement vary according to: Age • Baseline Collagen & Tissue Quality • Treatment Plan • Number of Sessions • Amount of Product • Individual Biological Response • Lifestyle & Ageing Process

Maintenance treatment may be considered according to individual needs and clinical assessment.

Sculptra® Aftercare

Patients should follow the individual instructions provided by their treating doctor.

Post-treatment recommendations may include guidance regarding: Massage • Skincare • Exercise • Heat Exposure • Pressure on Treated Areas • Other Aesthetic Procedures

Aftercare recommendations should be followed exactly as provided because they may vary according to the treatment technique and individual patient.

Do not aggressively manipulate treated areas unless specifically instructed by your doctor.

Can Sculptra® Be Combined with Other Treatments?

Sculptra® may form part of a broader facial rejuvenation programme when more than one ageing process is present.

Depending on the patient's anatomy and treatment goals, a plan may include: Botulinum Toxin • Dermal Fillers • Morpheus8 • BBL HEROic™ • Skin-Quality Treatments • Other Regenerative Procedures

These treatments address different concerns.

They are not necessarily performed at the same appointment.

The sequence and timing should be planned medically.

When Sculptra® May Not Be the Right Treatment

Sculptra® is not intended to correct every facial concern.

Another treatment may be more appropriate when the primary goal is:

Immediate Lip Enhancement • Precise Small-Area Contouring • Treatment of Dynamic Wrinkles • Pigmentation Treatment • Vascular Redness Treatment • Significant Excess Skin • Immediate High-Projection Volume

Correct treatment begins with determining whether the patient's concern is primarily related to: Muscle Activity • Volume Loss • Collagen Loss • Skin Quality • Pigmentation • Vascularity • Tissue Laxity

Sculptra® Consultation in Dubai

At Pearl Skin Polyclinic in Dubai, Sculptra® treatment begins with evaluating why facial support has changed.

We assess facial anatomy, tissue quality, volume distribution, skin laxity, facial proportions and individual ageing patterns.

Sculptra® may be recommended when PLLA collagen stimulation corresponds to the patient's treatment goals.

For some patients, Sculptra® alone may be appropriate.

For others, dermal fillers, botulinum toxin, Morpheus8 or another treatment may better address additional components of facial ageing.

The goal is gradual collagen stimulation, improved tissue support and natural-looking facial rejuvenation without creating an overfilled appearance.
